Following an appointment this morning with a podiatrist I now know why I wasn’t born to run. The video footage of my stride pattern would have been funny if it wasn’t so tragic. However, I walked away with some exercises to correct:
– The lack of flexibility in my calf muscles
– The poor muscle tone of my right glute– The fact that my big toes don’t bend as they should
And the possibility (or not) of spending a small fortune on orthotics
However, this evening I hit the rollers for 45 minutes with a view to finish off with a very easy run. The bike was great, I found the “average” setting on my speedo and was chuffed to average 20mph. Then with great trepidation I pulled on the running shoes and hit the road for a very gentle run. It was only 15 minutes, but enough to see how the calf was feeling. So far so good, I will see how it feels first thing in the morning and if it is ok may venture out for a slightly longer run.
